November 2012

Topic One: Rasa’s view on mainstream society- dichotomy between men and
women:
WORSHIP OF THE PENIS
•    “At some point though, the shift turned from rule of the mother and
worship of Mother God and veneration of women, into… the change happened
mind you over thousands of years. But the change went from what I just
said into they changed, the image of Mother God into a Father God… and
veneration of men. And what you have then is the worship of the phallus,
worship of the dick, the penis.” – Rasa’s view on how the shift has
changed from the worship of the female to the worship of the male. Yeah,
so this is what we have been moving for thousands of years into a stronger
and stronger worship of the dick, instead of the yoni, the vagina.
•    this satin and his demons, their vocation, are to torture people on
earth and to create, you know, torment and temptation, to sin, and destroy
souls and bring them to hell. Now that is the myth of patriarchy. That is
the story that explains patriarchy. What happened in a myth, it’s
explained in a myth, but it’s actually a re-ali-ty. The reality, the
reality is men, men, human men, not all of them, but a percentage of them,
according to this it’s 1/3, a percentage of them followed, instead of
following mother god and women, decided to break away from mother god and
women and matriarchy, create their own kingdom, their own worship of
THEMSELVES!  And they created god in their own image. It became the rein
of the phallus, the rein of the penis! Worship of the penis instead of the
vagina.- Rasa discussed how the shift went from female to male worship.
•    … hatred, competition, murder, genocide, atrocities, abuse of animals,
abuse of people, slavery, and every violent thing that we know of that is
common that they attribute to humanity, all these violent things come out
of the mind and hearts of the men in charge of the world.- Rasa believes
this is what happens in a male dominated society.
MALE SEXUALITY
•    And so the men have the freedom to control us and manipulate us and make
us get surgeries and make us wear cosmetics and make us wear sexy clothes.
Because we had to snag men, and we still do a little bit. We had to snag
men by our sex. By giving them a hard on, it’s all about their hard on.-
In our society it’s all about the man’s happiness, especially in sex. We
live in a society where women cater to men.
•    You know so love as we know it, as we know it in this patriarchal world
is what I call the “Blow and Hump.” Blow and Hump. That’s all they know.
And they are getting their teaching about sex from two sources, two main
sources. One is religion and culture, which is basically, religion is
teaching you repression, guilt and shame, patriarchal religion. The second
template that they’re learning from is pornography. Do you realize how
many of these boys and men are addicted to pornography? And that is the
center of their sex life. They begin getting addicted, looking at I should
say, at 11 years of age.- Men are addicted to porn, which Rasa believes
may be a main reason why women cannot get good sex.
•    And they masturbate to pornography every day. So besides all the other
problems they are having sexually, what is left for women? Women are
getting the crumbs off the table of men’s sexuality. Women are frustrated.
Women aren’t getting enough sex, and they’re not getting enough good sex.
Cause men are men are masturbating to pornography every day. And the
pornography is teaching them woman abuse. Hate women! Exploit women! And
USE them! And right now the prevalent teaching is fuck them up the ass.
Fuck women up the ass, every young man I’ve been talking to in the last
couple years has been talking about, “Can I fuck you up the ass?”- again,
rasa discusses pornography, and how women are held up to almost impossible
standards because of it. Thanks to porn, we as women also don’t get good
sex!

•    And I started asking questions, “Are you getting this from pornography?”
Well yeah..  So pornography taught, why do you think all women have shaved
vaginas? From pornography. Pornography taught men and women that women’s
vaginas have to be shaved. And pornography is now teaching men to fuck
women up the ass.- Rasa questions how porn taught men that women should
have shaved vaginas and its okay to fuck them up the ass.
Topic Two: What Rasa believes her purpose is, and how society should be
WORSHIP OF MOTHER GOD
•    I am mother God on Earth.- Rasa believes she is mother god on earth.
•    And a change of everything from a maternal matriarchal nurturing giving
loving benevolent way into a way of violence- Rasa believes if women were
in power, life would be better and less violent.
•    And everything about the woman was sacred, everything about sex was
sacred women were very powerful. They were both sexual and spiritual; they
were revered to be sexual and spiritual. There was no dichotomy between
the two, and there was no sexual repression. Sex was not considered dirty,
something to snicker about. Sex was a celebration of life and love in
those days.- Today, Rasa believes that since males dominate our society,
we don’t celebrate life and love as much anymore.
•    The perspective with mother god and women was, and it’s coming back, was
sex contained LOVE. And sex, and that’s what women call ROMANCE. And
that’s why women eat up romantic novels.- women should be power because
then sex is romantic and meaningful
•    called Shaktism and Shaktism is worship of God through the woman’s body.
So you see sex and spirit were once COMPLETELY in union with one another.-
Rasa reiterating how women were sexual and spiritual and how men
appreciated that.
EXTINCTION OF MEN
•    you know with the genetic, with the new science of genetics, and all the
other advanced knowledge that we have now, studies and genetics and
biology, and physics and everything, it’s an absolutely known fact that
women are vastly superior to men. Vastly superior, it’s also known, that
men are going extinct. There will be no more human men in a hundred
thousand years or so, give or take 25 thousand years. The Y-chromosome is
crumblinggggg. We are already on the brink of matriarchy. You might even
say we are already in matriarchy, but people haven’t woken up and seen
it.- Rasa discusses how women are superior to men and why we should live
in a female dominated society.
•    ?” women are moving ahead very quickly, and men are falling behind, its
not just that women are beating men, but that the men are falling back!
They’re quitting, not only are they quitting college, but they’re quitting
high school. And not only that, they are committing suicide more than
ever. Men always committed suicide five times more than women, but now not
only are young men 13-2 committing suicide a lot, abnormally, a lot more
than women, but middle aged men are right now. Committing suicide. And men
in the army, in the armed forces, in the military are committing suicide.
Uuhhh, more than ever. They always did, but now again its more than ever-
men are killing themselves. because they, they cannot bear this world, its
too much for them to handle.- Again Rasa reiterates why males are going
extinct, and how they cannot handle life as well as women can.
•    Because women were taking over education and management, once you take
over education and management it’s all over, the writing’s on the walls.-
women are superior in profession settings
•    Men, all they had to do was have money And so that’s where women will be
soon. They won’t have to be beautiful and sexy and wear sexy clothes and
get implants and get cosmetics, uh you know. And an inch of makeup, and
wigs and weaves, and god knows, everything that women do to be beautiful.
It’s exhausting, everything that women have to do.- Rasa muses on the fact
that women need to wear heels haha we could relate! But soon, women won’t
need to wear heels because men will fall at our feet anyways.
Topic Three: Female Empowerment
WOMEN ARE SEXUAL AND SPIRITUAL
•    Stripping for god broke through a dichotomy and an assumption. And that
dichotomy is another thing that patriarchy did. Patriarchy turned religion
into a woman is no longer sexual and spiritual. Cause, sexual and
spiritual is in one body and one person. A woman is either a Madonna or a
whore. That’s called the Madonna/whore concept- Rasa is trying to break
through and get rid of this dichotomy. Women should not be a Madonna or a
whore, it’s not black and white like that.
•    I am both sexual and spiritual. You are not a slut and a whore or a
Madonna. Do not descend yourself and say, “I’m not like her, not like the
hooker on the street.” Do not disconnect yourself from your sister, do not
look down on your sister, but realize that all women, are sexual and
spiritual at the same time. And so when I stripped for god, that is what I
brought back, I brought back that I am sexual and spiritual because I am
giving a sermon about god first, and then i’m dancing and showing my body-
Rasa shows how its possible to be both sexual and spiritul, and why she
stripped for God. Rasa feels connected to Shacktism- worship of the
Vagina. Again, being sexual AND spiritual.

TEACHER OF FEMALE EMPOWERMENT:
•    Which is, I am a template. I am a beginning. I am a teacher. I’m
teaching women, this is who you are.- Rasa is a teacher.
•    So that’s what I exemplified. I exemplified female strength! And female
liberty. That’s who I am. Female strength and female liberty.-Again, Rasa
is a techer.
•    I’m helping women understand men should be sex objects of women. Women
are the sex objects of men. I have been in the adult trade most of my life
as a model and as a dancer and I, the prevalent view point was always
WOMEN are the sex objects of men. So part of what I’m doing now is I’m
helping women to understand men are the sex objects of women- Trying to
convince other women to stand up for themselves and start having better
sex.
•    So I’m now on the forefront of teaching women and men a new sexuality.
Uh, I branched into sexuality I was celibate for 31 years. I started
dating again 4 ½ years ago. I am teaching women, “Look, men are your sex
objects. You are powerful. Go out with any age man you want. Go out with
young men.” I’m working to build a harem of young men myself I don’t have
it yet but I’m working towards it, that’s my goal.- Rasa wants many young
men to herself, and does not think men should be the only ones with power.
•    And I’m trying to help women to understand, “you’re getting powerful,
you’re getting money, start spending it. Spending it on pleasure! Spend it
on boys, on young men if you wish. You have the money stop giving it you
know to the Catholic Church or any church or anybody that’s gonna, you
know that’s doing evil. Use it for yourself. Use it for your own
happiness, your own pleasure. Go out with young men and see them as sex
objects.”- Rasa wants girls to have fun and have a lot of good sex!
•    In the last 5 years. So I do writing and teaching. I’m an educator, and
I’m an exemplar. An educator and an exemplar. I don’t just teach, see like
there’s people that sit in the college or university and they teach. I
live it! I live it! And they I teach it. See when I went downtown for 4
years every weekend, I was teaching by my living! I was living what I was
teaching.- Rasa is a techer.
•    well I’m an exemplar because I’m the oldest woman down there so I am
teaching “the old woman” to have fun. So I published 2 books called “Old
Woman, Young Men: Why You Belong Together.” And I explained the whole
philosophy, the whole philosophy is way beyond the cougar, um, concept.
WAY BEYOND THAT. It’s about taking back the world from the old men- Rasa
discusses her accomplishments and published books.

NOTE: Rasa explains a lot of our topics herself, so we didn’t know how
else to analyze the interview without just grouping topics into categories
and letting her words guide us.

THEIR FINAL PAPER

RASA TEACHES SEX
BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS INTERVIEW RASA – IT BRINGS THEIR GRADES UP
TO AN “A”

Rasa:  This paper is not comprehensive nor does it cover a lot of my views
– It discusses one of my views on sexuality.  Give the kids time.  They
can’t grasp it all at once.  This young lady, Natalie, asked me for a
second interview on another paper for herself & her male partner.
Meanwhile I have heard from yet another student to do an interview / paper
on me, the same University.

From Natalie

I attached two documents, one is our analysis based off the interview,
which guided our paper, and the other is the final paper. The grading was
done in hard copy, so i can't send you comments, but we got a 60/60, which
brought my grade up from a B to an A- in the class! I was very excited. I
look forward to speaking with you again, and will probably e-mail/call you
once i think of another research topic within the next couple weeks.

Mother God On Earth

INTRODUCTION:
From birth to adulthood, people all over the world learn what is expected
of them based upon their gender. These identities that people form often
define the people they grow to be, and their relationships with others. In
American culture, we abide by a highly patriarchal system. Women are often
seen as inferior to men and therefore receive fewer benefits in both the
work field as well as the social field. Female sexuality is limited, and
based on a strong double standard. There exists a classification
separating women into two categories, the “Madonna” if they are a “good
girl,” and the “whore” if they are promiscuous.
Our interviewee, Rasa Von Werder, an infamous figure around Binghamton
University, disagrees with this mainstream belief, and argues that women
can be both sexual and spiritual at the same time. Her version of
feminism, which she likes to call female empowerment, is a way for women
to embrace their sexuality and be comfortable in their own bodies.  Rasa
believes that she is “Mother God on Earth,” and was sent here by God to
bring back a society that worships the woman, or the “vagina.” Rasa wants
to be an exemplar for other women, and strives to teach men and women a
new sexuality (Interview, October 7, 2012).

LITERATURE REVIEW:
Past studies have shown the “learned” nature of gender. Gender is not a
biological characteristic but rather something that humans “do,” (Eckert &
McConnell, 2003, p. 10). Eckert & McConnell discuss the “gradual process”
of learning to be a boy or a girl (p.16). This process creates a dichotomy
between men and women, as each gender grows to learn what is to be
expected of him or her. “Men are strong. women are weak: men are
aggressive, women are passive; men are sex-driven, women are
relationship-driven: men are impassive, women are emotional,” (Eckert &
McConnell, 2003, p.35). Although Western society has created this
discourse, these distinct characteristics of men and women have seemed to
become “natural.”  It is often difficult for women to break these
stereotypes and identify themselves as strong, sexual human beings; and
even if they do, they are often not taken seriously.
Instead of women being appreciated for their sexuality and strength,
there is a lot of emphasis put on the sexualization of the female body.
Lee’s (1994) research specifically focuses on menarche, and how it
affects women. She studies how a lot of women feel anxious or ashamed of
their periods, and feel like they need to hide evidence of their
bleeding. Because of this, women feel like they need to focus their
attention on a more sexualized body image instead (Lee, 1994, p.360).
Menarche is seen as something that makes women “gross” or “ugly.” If we
lived in a matriarchal society where people “worshiped the vagina,”
menarche would be something natural and beautiful, symbolizing
reproductive and sexual potential, as opposed to something women should
be ashamed of (Lee, 1994, p.360).
In Evans’ (2006) research, thirteen to sixteen year old girls also dealt
with serious body image problems when it came to participation in high
school physical education classes. Based on what a patriarchal society
expects of women, many adolescent girls grow up with the beliefs that
they always need to look sexy and feminine to impress men. Evans (2006)
notes that girls’ bodies are decorative, making them feel ashamed when
participating in sports (p. 548). When the girls were asked how they
would feel if they had to participate in PE with boys, they said they
would not be happy because it would be too embarrassing.  These girls are
afraid to be seen as “too athletic” or “not athletic enough.” Both Lee
and Evans touch on sensitive subjects that girls need to deal with when
going through puberty. The articles show how a male-dominated culture
often makes women feel uncomfortable in their own skin and ashamed of
themselves and their bodies.
According to Tolman (1994), past research has found that female sexual
desire is defined by society’s dominant patriarchal system. Often women
are unable to recognize their own sexual feelings in order to abide by
social pressures of being a “good” woman (p. 325). Tolman discusses the
“Madonna/whore dichotomy” that Rasa also talks about. During adolescence,
girls’ bodies start to change and they begin to be viewed as sexual,
which conflicts with the “good girl” or “Madonna” image that females are
expected to have (Tolman, 1994, p.325). The research discusses how girls
learn to look at themselves through the perspectives of how men will view
them, and therefore lose touch with their own sexual feelings (Tolman,
1994).
Supporting Rasa’s version of female empowerment, Hanna Rosin (2012)
conducted research on the “hookup culture” at Yale University to get a
better insight on what young women want. She found that many young women
admitted to enjoying casual sex, and how they used their sexuality to gain
control over men. “Young women are more in control of their sexual
destinies now than probably ever before,” states Rosin (p.18). However,
when Rosin continued to research the subject regarding college hookups,
she found that young men were actually judging girls for their sexual
behaviors, taking it as far as tallying “fuck points” on the bulletin
board of their frat house. This tally system dehumanized these girls,
turning them from women to simply pawns in a game. Girls who slept with
several guys were not only given more “fuck points,” but were given
derogatory nicknames as well (Rosin, 2012, p. 20). This relates back to
the “Madonna/Whore” concept because while many college girls were enjoying
and exploring their sexuality, young men were judging them for it.
In contrast to Rosin’s studies, Orbach and Eichenbaum (1983) discuss how
women know and expect that their sexual needs will not be met in bed.
According to the authors, women are too occupied with satisfying their
partners during sex instead of focusing on themselves (p. 114). In the
patriarchal society that we live in, it is no surprise that women feel
inferior to men even in the privacy of their bedrooms.

METHODS:
Rasa is well known among college students in Binghamton since she parties
with us downtown. Around campus we had heard of her and her experiences
“stripping for god.” She is an extremely interesting woman who has been
around the world, has given a great amount of sermons, and has written
many books. We selected her because of her unique view on femininity,
sexuality, and spirituality. She is currently not in the area because she
is elsewhere focusing on spreading her beliefs; therefore we had to
conduct the interview over the phone.
Natalie spoke with Rasa as Haley wrote down some notes and listened in. We
originally had questions regarding her background and religious mission,
but Rasa ended up directing the conversation, which was a lot more
interesting. Our questions helped guide the interview, but Rasa surprised
us with a lot of information that we did not expect, shaping our topic
into what it is now. She certainly had a lot to say, and provided us with
a lot of knowledge about her beliefs, life, and experiences. After the
interview, we read through all of the information that she gave us, and
analyzed her thoughts based on major themes involving gender dichotomies,
spirituality, and female empowerment.

FINDINGS:
Studying Rasa is important not only because she is “Mother God on Earth”,
but because she is an educator teaching women around the world to be both
sexual and spiritual. She does not follow a specific religion but instead
uses God to support her argument of female sacredness. She believes that
her mission through God is to bring back female power and dominance. Her
ideas and views on sexuality and gender are very interesting and different
than what mainstream Western society believes, and it’s always exciting to
get a different perspective (Interview, October 7, 2012).
Rasa spent many years of her life trying to break the sexual
classification of females by “Stripping for God.” “You are not a slut and
a whore or a Madonna... realize that all women, are sexual and spiritual
at the same time. And so when I stripped for God, that is what I brought
back, I brought back that I am sexual and spiritual because I am giving a
sermon about God first, and then I’m dancing and showing my body,”
(Interview, October 7, 2012, 151-156). Rasa toured the country “stripping
for god” and spreading her female empowering beliefs. She strongly
disagrees with patriarchal society’s limitations on female’s ability to
express themselves sexually, something that Tolman (2012) also heavily
focuses on. If women do exhibit sexual desire they are often seen as
promiscuous. By “stripping for God” Rasa hoped to prove that a woman can
still maintain her faith and respect while expressing herself sexually as
well.
One of Rasa’s main goals as Mother God on Earth is to help all women feel
comfortable with their bodies and sexual desires. “I’m helping women
understand men should be sex objects of women,” (Interview, October 7,
2012, 284). In her version of feminism, she believes that women should be
able to use men for their own sexual needs. She goes far enough to claim
that women are in fact the dominant gender and deserve the power in the
male/female relationship (Interview, October 7, 2012). “Women are getting
the crumbs off the table of men’s sexuality” (Interview, October 7, 2012,
400-401). Like Orbach and Eichenbaum (1983), Rasa argues that women are
not sexually satisfied, and are treated as inferior in bed. According to
Rasa’s strong feminist views, women are not getting enough good sex, let
alone enough sex in the first place (Interview, October 7, 2012, 400-401).
She believes that heterosexual men are only concerned with their own
sexual desires and do not take the time to cater to the sexual needs of
their female partners. Changing the dynamics between men and women in the
bedroom is one of Rasa’s main goals. Rasa wants to educate women, and help
them know what they want in bed, and in the end be more sexually satisfied
(Interview, October 7, 2012).
Rasa’s sexual adventures in downtown Binghamton led to her many
realizations about the sexuality of twenty first century American youth.
When she noticed a pattern of young men asking her to “fuck her up the
ass,” the first thing she wondered was where a request like that was
coming from (Interview, October 7, 2012, 404-408). She concluded, that
exploiting women was positively correlated with watching lots of
pornography. Rasa believes that one reason why women lack sexual
satisfaction is because men spend all of their time “masturbating to
pornography,” (Interview, October 7, 2012, 402-403). According to Rasa,
this high level of pornography consumption gives men high and unrealistic
expectations of how females should act, behave, and look during sex. A
good amount of popular pornography in the twenty first century depicts men
as sexually dominant in the bedroom. According to Rasa, this teaches men
to exploit women, abuse them, hate them, and use them (Interview, October
7, 2012, 402-404).

CONCLUSION:
Rasa Von Werder’s unconventional ideas regarding women’s sexuality go way
beyond the traditional ideals of feminism. After speaking with her, we
were able to get full insight on how Rasa hopes to help change western
culture into a more matriarchal society. Along with previous research,
Rasa agrees that there is a double standard placed on women to be “good
girls” but also sexual beings that can satisfy men. She has devoted her
life to erasing this standard and making girls feel more comfortable with
their sexuality.
Some of the most interesting components to Rasa’s version of feminism are
the contradictions. One finding that stood out to us during our interview
was the contradiction between her childhood experiences and the way she
views men and women now. When talking about her mother, Rasa described
her as an extremely mean and abusive person. On the other hand, her
father took the kind and nurturing role in raising her (Interview,
October 7, 2012, 213-216). This goes against her views today regarding
the natural evil nature of men and superiority of women. We wonder how
she came to these conclusions after growing up with parents that went
against the typical male/female stereotypes.
To further investigate Rasa’s case it would be very interesting to speak
with her daughter.  Although she was not mentioned much in the interview,
Rasa stated that her daughter has become a religious Muslim who now lives
in Turkey. It would be interesting to see how and why she chose that
path, instead of following in her mother’s footsteps. She may be able to
give us more insight on her own experiences. Rasa has inspired many women
all over the world to stand up for themselves sexually, and continues to
do so today.
