This must be the world of gypsies. What strikes me is first, the FATNESS - not ony the 'babushkas' or married women but the men & even some of the youth. The couple getting married he looks 14, she 16. My second surprize is the UNIFORMS or dress code, or all wmen dressed alike, all men alike. Yes all married women must wear scarves on their heads. And all wear loose pleated skirts {which exaggerate fat} & loose button up blouses - all of similar type designs & colors! Even the men sometimes wear these type shirts with similar designs - all the men wear the same style hats. It's kind of like 'Amish' with their dress code.....Myself now being so skinny & also on the plant based diet, 7 weeks tomorrow, I see their food is big on MEAT & I saw NOTHING of salad, fruits or raw plant foods. That explains the fatness, lol. I know this is a fiesta but still, they did not get fat from being plant based. And the way they are - they all accept themselves, each other, it's their style, culture & what they're used to...... I recall meeting gypsies in LA - there were lots of them in the Hollywood area, & they all wore skirts - not exactly looking like this, but in the ball park. And they were all con artists, some followed me around. Some were fortune tellers & had all kinds of gimmicks to get stuff out of you. Not saying they were bad peope, but they were definitely on the take.
Indeed, Roma people (they really, really hate being called the G-word!) get a bad rap, unfortunately. Even if there is perhaps a kernel of truth to the nasty stereotypes about them, and the fact that they are rather....odd in terms of their culture.
