A Good Song For Our Times: "The End" by Five Finger Death Punch

Posted by Ajax the Great (Pete Jackson)

Here is a good song, "The End" by my absolute favorite band, Five Finger Death Punch (2022).  It really captures the zeitgiest of the dark times we are living in now.  This is the official video, with lyrics:

"I've opened up my eyes just to wish that I'd stayed blind..."

"It's never over, not 'til it's over..."

  1. This is a step or more up from the other guys. At least you can understand the words & it gives the transcript. So I can see why people woud like this, as it tries to make sense of things. Reminds me of the folk songs that tried to explain life, like Woodie Guthrie, Buffy St Marie, Bob Dylan & many others. But this genre I've never been exposed to - never even heard it - not sure why, except that I listened to other things. We have had a very different cutural exposure. As far as popular music I istened to blues, rythm & blues old style jazz {prior to 1950} & the classical, opera, & also like the older country & western & hillbilly. I appreciate the effors to portray your cultural world to us. Thanks. {No wonder I can never guess your song quizzes - I never heard any of them!}

    2. Indeed they are my top favorite band of all time. Their genre is sometimes called "groove metal".

    3. Speaking of folk music, have you ever listened to Phil Ochs? He is great IMHO. His song "When in Rome", though written in 1968, would also seem to apply a fortiori to the zeitgiest of the present time as well.
