Sermon against lounging in bed because as you know every man gets an erection in the morning - & he who stays lazy in bed could be temted to masturbate & this could ruin his spiritual life & he might even leave his religious vocation. This shows how OBSESSED the Catholic Church is with 'purity' & 'impurity' - sex being DIRTY & SINFUL. In the new religion we see sex as a natural, normal act & God did not create it to tempt us to offend the Almighty - this is an invention of the males & Patriarchy.

So ridiculous is the Catholic Church's (and many other patriarchal religions' to one degree or another) bizarre and archaic obsession with sexual "purity", and that is indeed an invention of males and the patriarchy. The specious and outmoded idea of sex (and masturbation) as somehow inherently "dirty" and "sinful" indeed ought to be jettisoned like so much garbage. It was all concocted by men primarily to control Women (and indirectly control other men) and thus prop up their own power, which means it really serves no genuinely useful purpose.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Don Bosco himself means well in his heart of hearts. But truly even the greatest geniuses and paragons of virtue have their own blind spots, and as a product of his time, this unfortunately appears to be one of them.
