Revenge of Arnold lol

Body Building Here We Go Again! & the Revenge of Arnold must be told

“Golden Era Bookworm” questions 5-26-25

 Dear Rasa

I hope that this email finds you well and in good health.

I recently started reading a book on Mike Mentzer written by John Little, and several things written within prompted me to think of you.

Also, i recently purchased the 1982 Ms Olympia negatives, again, I thought of you.

So here are my questions, or at least some of them and would love for you to answer them.

I generally don't like doing questions in a written form because it is not organic. An interview should have a certain structure but flow as a conversation and not be so rigid. If we can't Zoom in the future, than at least a phone conversation would be awesome.

My Whatsapp is +417xxxxx if you wish to continue with a phone interview.

Interview with Rasa Von Werder/aka Kellie Everts

1) What was it that made you want to start lifting weights?

2) During a time that was the beginning of female revolution, did you feel that moving out from your home was a risky thing to do? Was a necessity or did you feel it was rebellious? Did you feel liberated?

3) When was your first bodybuilding competition?

4) You competed throughout the 1970s and finally quite early in the 1980s. Did you ever consider stepping back on stage or where you done with competing in bodybuilding all together?

5) In the mid to late 1970s you were actively promoting female bodybuilding in magazines like Esquire and Playboy in which you appear nude. Nudity is something that you are quite comfortable with. Can you explain why?

6) You have mentioned that your father was abusive to you. Some would say that you may have a predisposition to please men due to that experience. Is this a factor as to why you are comfortable being nude? Is this a driving factor in the direction of your life? Eg The need to liberate women? That is ok to sleep with multiple male partners.

7) I personally believe in a balance between order and chaos. Being too orderly has shown that people will rebel. Whereas pure rebellion and chaos has shown that people then require a leader and some order, some purpose in their life. Do you believe in the balance of order and chaos? Do you believe that these energies are male and female ie order/male, chaos/female?

8) You are a very religious and spiritual person. Why did you find the need to create your own religion? Why was Christian religion not enough?

9) What is your opinion of God?

10) What is your opinion of Jesus Christ?

11) What is your opinion of the Virgin Mary?

Back to bodybuilding....

12) Why do you have the opinion that women can use steroids? Can you elaborate on that?

13) Who do you think was the greatest female bodybuilder of all time?

14) Do you believe that female bodybuilding should be as it was in the late 90s or late70s/early 80s?

15) If you believe women should take anabolic steroids like men, then what is your opinion on transsexual medical interventions?

16) Do you think people should do whatever they please with their bodies? Do you not think that God created us as we are and we should respect that? Is anything too extreme for a human to do to him/herself?

Arnold and you...

It is well established that Arnold was infatuated by you, and I would dare say that many bodybuilders in that era were. Why do you claim that Arnold wanted to destroy your career? Was it that he couldn't have you? Was it that he was jealous of you? Was he afraid that you were reducing his significance/limelight?

History of Female bodybuilding

it has been said that you are the progenitor of female bodybuilding. Dan Lurie claimed this. Do you agree with this? In what respect do you think you are the female progenitor of bodybuilding?

In my opinion, you are the progenitor in much the same way as Rachel McLish, Corrie Everson and so one. I do believe you were the FIRST to bring attention to female bodybuilding and the sport of competition. However, there were many female bodybuilders before you. One great example is Pudgy Stockton, who was a weightlifter and bodybuilder and famous in Muscle beach. Going further back, we have other female bodybuilders and physical culturists and even strongwomen such as Sandwina, Vulcana and others. What do you think of these women? Are they pioneers of women's bodybuilding? They truly must have had a tough time given that these women entered a male dominated sport over 100 years ago!

That is all for now.

Please answer in bold next to each question.

Best regards,

Carlos

Thanks. I read all the questions & in answering them it'll be a NEW BOOK that YOU should publish. Lulu is FREE & I have about 28 books published with them. With your intelligence & education it would not be difficult.

And I can see some glaring items that need clarification. The first is my FATHER DID NOT ABUSE ME - MOTHER ABUSED ME. She got my brother & sister to join & & help her demoralize me, my Aunt as well. My Dad was an ANGEL - He loved me the way a good parent should but in the end he left me with Mom who then abused me terriby, & he would not take me to be with him thereby abandoned me. But later I went to live with him etc.  My Dad was a Saint, my Mom a monster. So your other inferences are not on track.

Arnold:  REVENGE is his middle name - I de facto REJECTED him in favor of his best friend Franco

PROGENITOR: Of the IDEA which got the contests started. None of these other PIONEERS got the contests started. They did what they did for their own reasons, not necessarily to empower women but make a living or a hobby. I have no opinion on what they did in particular.

Some of your questions seem like you DID NOT READ my explanations already. So I have to REPEAT again for the hundredth time, what I said before. And I can see you don't have the picture of my accurate POSITION of where I stood. So it'll again take time to explain.  But if you would kindly READ what I sent you you might see it better - re being first with the idea. That is what I claim & nothing else: It was me who got the IDEA into the MAINSTREAM MEDIA. Not body building media, mainstream media. Then this guy in Akron Ohio put on the first female body building contest because of ME & my PLAYBOY ARTICLE & from then on they started contests.

The old timers like Pudgy, circus performers, stunt women - the Steve Reeves clan - did not get female bb into the mainstream. No contests started beause of them. And again, the women who came after me, Rachel & all them - I'll leave that for later. I have strong opinions on what they mostly stood for. And it isn't pretty. Ego, self aggrandizement, me, myself & I - recognition & MONEY. Most {not all} did it for fame & fortune. With me, what was it? It was to claim the right for women to be  EQUAL with men as far as body builders, not as cheezecake models to admire their muscles! - to be LOWER than men - which we were.  Female empowerment, not my ego, not money not recognition - to give women female empowerment.

Like I said, answering your questions will take time. Right now I am formatting THREE books - the first two are de facto DONE except for editing, pictures, & some touch ups. The first two should be done within a month to six weeks, the third, maybe 2-3 months

  1. Great response, Rasa! Indeed, good for you that you insisted on answering it YOUR way on YOUR terms, and NOT going out of your way to appease him. If he is really truly interested, he will accept it regardless. I hope it all goes well for you, and I think it will.

This article came out great, with great artwork and plenty of cute fuzzies as well. I will be sure to share it.

Best of luck with everything 🍀

  2. his last letter - good news - he might do a book which I already asked him before: Dear Rasa
Before I forget, I did want to state that if I do write a book on you, I have already thought of the title. "Goddess. The First Professional Female Bodybuilder. " I think it's quite fitting.
Also, I wanted to know if you could add your account of what you saw leading up to, during and after the 1980 Mr Olympia. Nobody has ever asked a females perspective on this, and I think you should be the first to do so.
    Best regards
    Carlos
